Figuring out how to get the wrinkles out of your clothing can feel endless sometimes. Do you love wearing your leather pants but don’t love how wrinkled they always seem to get? Not to worry, we put together a guide on how to get rid of those pesky wrinkles.
There are a few ways to get the wrinkles out of your leather pants. Some good ways to do this include:
- Using a garment steamer
- Ironing your pants with low heat
- Pulling out any wrinkles manually
As we begin, we will cover the various ways to remove wrinkles from leather and faux leather pants. Regardless of how bad your wrinkles are, we’ve got an idea for you. With that said, let’s dive right into this topic!
How To Unwrinkle Leather Pants
Typically, leather pants will wrinkle if not stored correctly. If this happens, there are ways to fix the problem without damaging your pants. For the most part, Leather material is relatively easy to stretch and reshape if wrinkling happens, but you will need to be gentle while doing so.
Using A Steamer
Our first suggestion is a quick and easy way to unwrinkle leather pants using a steamer. To do this, grab your leather pants and turn them inside out. Next, lay or hang them on a flat surface that won’t mind some heat. Once you complete that step, turn on your steamer and move it up and down against the inside of your pants. Repeat this process until your pants are wrinkle-free, and don’t forget to turn off your steamer.

Ironing With Minimal Heat
Second, we have another easy way to unwrinkle leather using a clothing iron. To begin, grab a towel or ironing board and place your pants on top. Next, grab a pillowcase or sheet and put it over your leather pants. After that, turn on your iron to a low heat setting and start to move it across your leather pants. You can do this until you notice the wrinkles are gone; make sure not to burn the leather on your pants.

Pulling Out Any Wrinkles
Finally, we have a good option for anyone without a steamer or iron. To start, spray down your pants with water or gently rub them down with a damp towel. Then, begin to pull areas with wrinkles out until you notice less visible wrinkling.
Of course, this is not as instant compared to steaming or ironing, but it will lessen the appearance of wrinkles on your leather pants. In general, we recommend hanging up your pants right after you wash them to avoid needing to unwrinkle them later on.
Do Leather Pants Wrinkle Easily?
When it comes to leather pants wrinkling easily, this is somewhat true. As leather ages, it becomes more susceptible to wrinkling and warping. Generally, as long as you store your leather correctly, this should not be a major issue. We recommend hanging up leather pants as soon as you wash them to avoid wrinkling or creasing.
Is Leather Clothing Hard To Maintain?
For those considering leather pants or clothing, we would say maintaining them can be tricky. Typically, leather does not do well with excess washing, so you might want to spot clean your clothing instead. Another factor that causes issues for leather is exposure to sun and weather, so try not to wear your pieces outside too often.
We suggest using a leather conditioner or balm regularly on your clothing and keeping the machine washing to a minimum.

Can You Steam Leather Pants?
Like we mentioned above, yes, you can certainly steam leather pants. Steaming, in general, is a fast and easy way to unwrinkle leather and won’t usually cause any issues. With that said, too much moisture or heat can cause damage to your leather, so it’s best to keep your steaming minimal. Of course, we recommend turning your leather pants inside out to prevent any damage from happening to your clothing.
Can You Steam Faux Leather?
Similar to steaming genuine leather, faux leather is fine to steam as well. Generally, faux leather is more delicate, so turning your pants inside out while you steam is a good idea. Faux leather is a mix of fabric and plastic, so too much heat can cause warping and melting, so keep that in mind before you steam them.
How To Get Wrinkles Out Of Faux Leather Fabric
If your faux leather pants are wrinkled, you can use our same suggestions earlier to solve this problem. For the most part, Faux leather is fine when ironed, steamed, and pulled, so you should not have to switch things up too much.
Heat-wise, we recommend you keep your iron setting low to avoid melting the synthetic leather material. When it comes to steaming, we think you are fine as long as your pants are inside out and not steamed for too long. If you want to try stretching or pulling your faux leather pants, this might not be ideal if the wrinkling is severe, but it is OK for reshaping.
How Do You Iron Faux Leather Pants?
When it comes to ironing faux leather, low heat is everything. To begin, place your pants on an ironing board or towel and grab a light sheet. Next, make sure your irons heat setting is low and start to move it around any wrinkled areas on your pants.
We recommend moving fairly quickly around your pants and not letting your iron sit in the same place for too long. If your pants are still wrinkled after ironing on a low setting, this is when you can turn the heat up slightly and repeat the process.
Do Faux Leather Pants Wrinkle More Than Real?
Between the two styles, synthetic leather pants will wrinkle easier than the real thing. Although this does not mean you shouldn’t buy faux leather, expect to see more wrinkling than genuine material. Faux leather tends to wrinkle more due to its plastic-coated fabric, essentially creasing depending on how you store/wear it.
If wrinkling bothers you, we recommend opting for higher-quality faux leather pants with thicker material. From what we found, the thicker your pants, the less likely they are to wrinkle.

How Can I Prevent My Leather Pants From Wrinkling?
Regardless of whether your leather pants are real or faux, there are ways to prevent wrinkling from happening. Most importantly, make sure to hang up your pants right after washing them so they don’t crease or wrinkle. Like we mentioned, leather also does not do well in the elements and needs to be stored somewhere dry and cool. Keeping your washing to a minimum is another easy way to stop wrinkles and extend your pants’ lifespan.
To Wrap Things Up
Whether you have real or faux leather pants, wrinkling is inevitable. From what we found, the best way to get rid of wrinkles is to steam, iron, or even pull on your leather pants. Keeping your leather pants stored in a dry, cool place is one of the best ways to prevent wrinkling and damage.
Generally, both natural and synthetic leather doesn’t do well with overwashing, so try to spot clean if possible. Regardless, keep your iron’s heat low, don’t steam for too long, and if all else fails, pull on your leather a bit to loosen it up.
